A unique and ever-changing experience in one of Downtown Bay City's renovated historic buildings. A metropolitan feel with contemporary art for viewing and for sale, rotating exhibitions of photography, a variety of ceramic pieces, contemporary furniture and local interest photography.

With the goal of keeping fine art affordable, A & J Gallery features original pieces from around the world. Works are varied, span three centuries and include virtually every style and medium. Contemporary art and Impressionism are the primary focus. Persian rugs, sculptures, pottery and a special collection of Russian icons are also available.

An amazing collection of conservation edition prints from the Department of Natural Resources' annual duck stamp art competition, now in the care of the Michigan Duck Hunters Association and on display at the Saginaw Bay Visitor Center.

Our yearly exhibitions include the All-Area Exhibit, Kids Kreations, and Teen Works. Studio 23/The Art Center holds multiple cultural and various medium exhibits like The East Asian Art Exhibit and Native American Art Exhibit, digital photography, traditional black & white photography, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and a variety of other mediums.

Captain Benjamin Boutell Feature Gallery is named in honor of Captain Benjamin Boutell; his entrepreneurial spirit and leadership were well known throughout Bay County and the country at the turn of the nineteenth century. It was through his vision and leadership that many fledgling industries flourished, making Bay County a thriving community. Although probably best known for his success in the shipping and lumber industries, he was also heavily involved with the start of the sugar industry in Bay County as well as several sugar companies throughout Michigan, Colorado and also in Canada. Captain Boutell was involved in other various industries including: farming, banking real estate, coal, iron and cement just to name a few. Paintings of several of the captain’s vessels by renowned maritime artist Howard Freeman Sprague are currently being exhibited as part of “A Family Legacy: The Story of Captain Benjamin Boutell”. The paintings commissioned by Captain Boutell are believed to be the largest museum collection of Sprague’s work. Family photographs and brief documentary on the family are also featured in the exhibit.

Artist Jeff Ward has been working with clients to create original works of art in a variety of subject matter. The most challenging and rewarding subject matter is portraiture. Over the past decade, Ward has become a respected portrait painter, recognized for achieving very life like results in oil, pastel, graphite and charcoal. A seemingly natural balance of technical skill, accuracy through close observation, and intuitive execution is derived from the experience of creating hundreds of works.

Also available at the gallery are contemporary ceramic studios to design and paint one-of-a-kind ceramic pieces.
